Lucy’s wish for Wisconsin is that we always have really great schools and really great teachers.
That’s our wish too, Lucy.
At StageW we are working hard to support students, teachers and parents across the state in order to help Wisconsin provide the best education in the world. To accomplish this goal we are seeking to do three important things:
- Unify Wisconsin around the topic of education
- Giving center stage back to the people of Wisconsin, restoring the voice of teachers, parents and students.
- Reveal and advocate plans for how to improve education in Wisconsin. These plans are developed in conversations with students, teachers and parents around the state.
Our big idea is actually very simple.
We believe kids are the central and most important people in our educational system and should be personally connected to the people and experiences needed to bring learning alive.
Do you agree?
If that’s true, then we need to figure out how to make sure every child is supported at home, in the community and at school. The only way a student will consistently be in the “just right” place mentally, physically and emotionally to learn is if his or her basic needs are met in each of those areas – home, community and school. This is true throughout every phase of formal education.
W-Alive™ is the plan
W-Alive™ creates connections that link learning to life, bringing education in WisconsinAlive™. This kind of education enables kids to solve all kinds of life challenges, while creating inspired futures for themselves and others. In order to build and sustain an educational system that supports this kind of learning, we need to develop strategies and programs that assume our kids to be the central and most important people in the process. Their relationships with family, teachers, other kids, their community, higher education and the future all need to be nurtured in realistic yet ambitious ways. StageW™ believes this is possible.
WE ARE ADVOCATING PROGRAMS AND POLICIES THAT ARE ABLE TO MAKE WISCONSIN’S EDUCATION THE BEST IN THE WORLD.
Where do our ideas come from?
Our ideas for education are formed in conversations with teachers and kids, administrators and parents, as well as business and community leaders. The programs described within our website are informed by those conversations. Please read, question, encourage and challenge our ideas. Your voice will influence how the plan evolves.
Below are two examples of our ideas. Read many more by clicking the colorful circles on this page: http://stagew.org/about-us/education-plan/
Technology – StageW with our W-Alive™ plan is advocating to connect kids to technology. W-Alive™ connects kids to the highest speed broadband Internet and makes 21st century learning possible in every inch of Wisconsin. Broadband – W-Alive recognizes that literacy now also means computer and Internet literacy. Knowing how to use the Internet to quickly access and decipher information is a learned skill expected by employers. Every kid needs high-speed access to learning.
Virtual one-on-one – StageW’s W-Alive plan is advocating for the creation of the WisTalk™ Internet learning channel. This will give kids and teachers virtual access to that one-on-one “great teacher” experience that is crucial for learning. It also give kids and teachers instant classroom access to expert learning programs that complement the curriculum and free teachers to spend more one-on-one time with kids.
